Τεκμήριο Teacher Training on Cultivating Students’ Critical Thinking in the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence Tools(2025-12-12) Alexouda, Georgia; Πολυτεχνική Σχολή, Τμήμα Μηχανικών Πληροφορικής και Ηλεκτρονικών ΣυστημάτωνAbstract—Recent guidelines for the subject of Informatics in greek middle-school and the new school textbooks introduce the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence tools. The responses produced by Generative Artificial Intelligence tools may contain inaccuracies, errors, and biased ideas. For this reason, it is very important for students to recognize the need to evaluate such responses and to cultivate relevant critical skills. Students are, in general, already familiar with Artificial Intelligence tools, and it is essential for schools to foster a critical approach to their use. In order for schools to effectively respond to the challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence in education, teacher training is required. Taking this need into consideration, a training program was designed on the use of Artificial Intelligence tools in education. The training was addressed to middle-school teachers of all disciplines and was implemented in person, within the framework of each school’s in-service training program. One core thematic unit of the training concerned the development of students’ critical thinking regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence tools. This paper presents the design of the training program, with emphasis on this particular thematic unit, the experience of its implementation in three middle-schools, and the results of a feedback questionnaire. Based on the results, teachers recognize the importance of cultivating students’ critical thinking in the use of Artificial Intelligence tools and the usefulness of the training in this specific thematic area.
