One type of 3d data is point clouds that usually are created by lidar sensors. There is intensive research, in the recent years, on the field of object detection and annotation with 3d data and many different state-of-the-art methods have been presented. The purpose behind this thesis, is to try to improve one of these methods, by combining it with parts of different methods or use it in parallel with another method. The motivation behind this thesis, is to research if it is possible to get better results by modifying a method. An application of this research is that there could be created a guideline for improving an already successful method. The selected method in 3d object detection and annotation to be modified was Pointpillars. One part of the exploration was to substitute part of this method with parts from different methods and test its performance. The selected parts to be added were residual networks and inception networks, that were successful in 2d object recognition. Pointpillars, first creates a pseudo-image from 3d data and then uses 2d convolutions to recognize patterns, and at this stage the above parts can be introduced. The other part of the exploration is to train parallelly with another method. The selected method was Complex YOLO, and the recognized features of each method were combined and then it was performed detection of objects. The goal is to check if the two parallel methods can outperform the original Pointpillars method. The results of the experiments showed that there was not improvement in the results both with the modifications and the parallel training. Except that, some of the modified models were more computationally expensive and inefficient compared to the original method.Τεκμήριο 3D Printed Biodegradable Esophageal Stent(2024-06-18) Profitiliotis, ThomasThis dissertation was written as part of the Msc in Strategic Product Design at the International Hellenic University. Esophageal stenting is used in the palliative therapy of dysphagia to patients suffering from esophageal diseases. Nonetheless, the currently available metallic and plastic stents aren’t patient specific and come with different complications, such as perforation and migration to the stomach. To reduce these complications, I designed a biodegradable esophageal stent with different lattice structures. The designed stents were 3D printed using varioshore TPU. Tensile strength, nanoindentation, selfexpansion and anti-migration tests were conducted to ensure that both the material and the designs meet the required specifications. Tensile strength testing revealed that printing the material at a lower temperature produced a stronger and more ductile material. Similarly, nanoindentation testing revealed that printing the material at a lower temperature produced a more stiff and deformable material. Although the selfexpansion test revealed that the lattice structure of the stents had no influence on compressibility or recovery, the printing temperature did, with stents printed at higher temperatures being less resistive to compression. The anti-migration test findings showed that increasing the printing temperature can affect the stent's expansion within the esophagus and that the design of the lattice structures can improve the stent's resistance to migration. The results suggest that the 3D printed esophageal stent with lattice structures has the potential to be used in the treatment of esophageal diseases.Τεκμήριο 3D Printing for circuit design with conductive filaments(2020-06-15) Meretis, Evangelos GeorgiosThis dissertation presented below was written as part of the MSc in Strategic Product Design at the International Hellenic University. 3D printing is an innovative and unique additive manufacturing technology that without a doubt offers a high degree of freedom for the creation of various products that incorporate electrical parts, such as sensors, switches and connectors. The ease of access in low-cost, dependable, conductive material will be undoubtedly vital in the fabrication of these products. Up to this point, there are not many reliable 3D printable conductive filament composites with high enough conductive properties that can be used in the fabricate of circuits for fused deposition modeling. In view of this, we present the fabrication, testing, characterization and application of an inexpensive thermoplastic conductive material that has been prepared into filament form for 3D printing. Results from the dynamic ultra-micro-hardness tests, as well as SEM analysis are thoroughly presented in order to fully define the structure along with the mechanical properties of the developed composite. An emergency stop button (e-stop) was designed and printed with the newly created prototype and applied to a small circuit design in order to demonstrate the potential use of this composite into circuit applications.Τεκμήριο 3D Printing for Museums: Issues of Intellectual Property and Sustainable Development(2023-04-25) Bora, PaschaliaThis paper aims to present the application of 3D printing in Museums in terms of sustainable development as well as from the scope of Intellectual Property law that applies for the protection of the works coming from 3d printing process. Through literature review on the topic of tourism and souvenirs as well as the underlying logic in puzzles, combined with technical knowledge on joinery and connections the authors summarize the the current state of the art and aim to combine these fields in the elaboration of a design proposal. The methodology followed is market research and the study of consumer behavior through questionnaires. The analysis of the obtained data leads to meaningful conclusions about the tourist preferences and aids the authors in the elaboration of a design brief. The authors examine two case studies of similar products in order to identify the positive and negative characteristics, discuss their functionality, aesthetics and materiality and therefore take meaningful decisions about their design proposal. The knowledge gained through the above mentioned research methods leads to the design proposal, which is documented in detail. The design process departs from moodboards and the study of current manufacturing technologies in order to propose a product that combines a high aesthetic value with the construction workflow that is compatible with new technologies. Several phases of design explorations lead to the actual product design, which the authors also constructed physically at the university lab. As the product is to be assembled from 2D parts into a 3D model, the authors placed particular emphasis on the disassembly and packaging of the object, proposing a packaging solution that follows similar aesthetic criteria coupled with functionality concerns and environmental sustainability.Τεκμήριο The 50/50 recommender: personality in movie recommender systems(2017-04-24) Nalmpantis, OrestisThis dissertation was written as a part of the MSc in ICT Systems at the International Hellenic University. Its main goal is the examination of the role of human personality in Movie Recommender systems. We introduce the concept of combining collaborative techniques with a personality test so to provide more personalized movie recommendations. Previous research has shown some efforts to incorporate personality in Recommender systems, but no actual implementation has been attempted on a software level. Using a renowned movie dataset and the Big Five Personality test, we developed a system with Python that managed to improve the normal Movie Recommendation experience by 3.62%. The findings show that Personalization improves the user’s experience even though extra effort might be demanded. With further modifications and testing, we can come to the new age of recommender systems, where personality of the user is as important as it is in real life.Τεκμήριο A case tool for designing privacy aware Information Systems(2018-04-28) Atzemis, AthanasiosThe extended use of software applications has aroused the need for more privacy aware information systems, so that individuals can feel sure that their data is protected. The privacy of an individual would be invaded without taking into consideration various privacy issues of a software application. There are many privacy issues, which should be addressed. This dissertation analyzes the need of creating privacy aware information systems and describes in a detailed manner the PriS methodology, a privacy requirements engineering methodology, which can be used to help the providers of an information system to create a successful privacy aware information system. Also, a research about existing privacy requirements methodologies was conducted, which showed that there are not many CASE tools currently in the market and especially in the form of a mobile application. Thus, a mobile application was developed with the aim of addressing some inadequacies of existing privacy methodologies. The application utilizes the PriS methodology in order to assist developers to develop more privacy aware software. A mobile application gives the potentiality for the developer to work without internet connection and be portable.Τεκμήριο A Marketing Plan for “Lancom” company(2020-06-12) Kesoglou, ChristinaThe purpose of this dissertation is the development of a Marketing Plan for “Lancom” company in order that all actions that have to be taken by the company for achieving its goals, be determined and recorded. One explanation as to why the Semantic Web has not quite caught on yet is that the barrier to entry is too high. During this dissertation the background and implementation of the “ACE Interface External Web Agent”, an open source semi-autonomous web platform serving as an intermediate with the RuleML Rule Responder System is described. Everyone, specialists in knowledge management to non-experts, can access it and pose queries the Rule Responder System. This is accomplished by automatically translating natural language queries written in Attempto Controlled English into the Reaction Rule Markup Language which is the knowledge representation format. Furthermore, the responses are provided to the user in a friendly and easy to understand way via simple web pages. At this point I would like to thank Dr. Nick Bassiliades, academic coordinator in the School of Science and Technology at the International Hellenic University, for the trust he showed in me and the assignment of this dissertation project, the guidance and the assisting bibliography. I would also like to thank Dr. Efstratios Kontopoulos, academic assistant in the School of Science and Technology at the International Hellenic University, for his unselfish and unfailing support and understanding as my dissertation advisor. It is a communal way for a new design to be digitally presented before emerging into the market and for this reason it is concluded into the design process. This master’s thesis aims to develop a series of creative design stages, from concept development process and 3d modelling to brand identity of a new product line. More specifically, the dissertation targets to present the final designs inspired by everyday products and propose a logo for the new brand. The new product line will be based on an ecofriendly material, more specifically cork, enhancing the need of sustainable design. The brand will be named «Fellos Furniture» from the Greek word «φελλός». It is vital to ensure that human is the center of a «good design», so most of the design approaches are human centralized. This is a visual design concept, and it can be divided into two (2) parts: Digital Design & Communication Design. Digital design is referred to the presentation of the final 3d models of the new product line, while communication design is referred to the final design of the logotype based on the products identity.Τεκμήριο A.I. and the GDPR(2024-05-01) Agathaggelidis, NikolaosΤεκμήριο Abacus, the tree for the I.H.U. campus(2015-07-01) Tsikoti, NikoletaWhen the designer first visited the International Hellenic University, she noticed the vast empty field, an abandoned campus used as parking place, surrounding two architectural indifferent buildings. Moreover, every time she wanted to communicate the start of her Master studies, very few people seemed to know the locus of I.H.U., many of them assuming that it might be at the Aristotle’s University premises. A landmark, an emblem, a point of reference was missing although the University is built on the junction of the roads to the Macedonia international airport and to Chalkidiki, clearly visible by the people driving by. Only a small internal yard in front of the cafeteria was thought for students to spend the free time between the demanding courses by standing around, talking and drinking coffee. No trees, or greenery, no suggestion for a brief stress relief activity were offered. The initial idea popped up during the ecological workshops she offered as a social club activity and was considered provoking: design a covering using renewable materials and items, beyond their conventional use, suspended over a frame or skeleton in order to create a strong visual impression of a daring display at the I.H.U. campus. Her intention was to produce an experience in which the viewer can be engaged decoding new meanings and ideas by a direct interaction with the various elements of the object to start an individual “dialogue” with the concept for the I.H.U. campus. An exciting blend of architectural design and art installation, an innovative work that can be rearranged and redesigned according to the mood of the students, the workshop participants, users, invited artists for seminars etc., by creating a large-scale interactive construction in order to incorporate natural and renewable elements, as sculptural furniture and equipment to stimulate and support outdoor activities.Τεκμήριο The abkhazian diaspora in Turkey(2015-07-06) Zoumpourtikoudis, StamatisThis paper examines the Abkhazian Diaspora especially in Turkey from the late of 19th century till the post-Soviet Era and also focuses on the relationships between the Abkhazian Diaspora and the Motherland Republic of Abkhazia. The subject is examined through the theoretical assumptions of Diaspora and Transnationalism. The main aim is to define the Abkhazian Diaspora focusing not only in Turkey but also in the wider area of the Europe and Middle East. Moreover, the study of the Abkhaz People is based on historical sources which provide significant details about their origin and their identity. However, the clarification of the North West Caucasian People is needed. Finally, the paper examines how the economical and Cultural activities of the Abkhazian Diaspora in Turkey and Russia enhance the preservation of the Abkhazian sovereignty (part recognized Independent State) and in what extent the role of the Abkhazian Diaspora Associations and Confederations fulfils this prospect.Τεκμήριο Aboriginal Artists' Rights and Protection: A Study of Australian Law and International Law(2021-09-23) Sirois, NicoleThis dissertation was written as part of the MSc in Art Law and Arts Management at the International Hellenic University. It explores Aboriginal Artists’ rights and protection under Australian law based on an analysis of legal cases, the institutional framework for supporting the artists and discrepancies between Australian law and international laws relating to Indigenous Knowledge in Australia. Aboriginal Australians are considered the world’s oldest civilization based on DNA studies carried out by historians. Aboriginal culture is rich, with a strong oral tradition and spiritual connection to the land. Yet because Aboriginals traditionally followed a nomadic lifestyle, precious little physical evidence of their culture remains. The aboriginal community has faced challenges in controlling the unauthorized reproduction of their artwork, receiving fair compensation and has become vulnerable to unethical treatment by opportunists. The objective of the dissertation is to identify: (i) the rights and protections available to Aboriginal artists under both Australian law and international laws relating to Indigenous Knowledge in Australia; (ii) to what extent the existing institutional framework provides support to Aboriginal artists in maintaining these rights and protections; and (iii) how Australian law could be better harmonized with international laws relating to Indigenous Knowledge in Australia. Based on this analysis, the paper recommends measures to strengthen Aboriginal Artists’ rights and protection under Australian law and the institutional framework surrounding Indigenous Knowledge (IK) through measures to control Indigenous art in the marketplace, respect Indigenous laws and customs, recognize and protect the rights of Indigenous People, and promote ethical behavior in dealing with IK.Τεκμήριο The abuse of dominant position(2016-05-13) Stamatis, PanagiotisThis dissertation was written as a part of the post-graduated program of LLM IN Transnational and European Commercial Law, Mediation, Arbitration and Energy Law in academic year 2014-2015. In the first segment of this thesis is tried a general analysis of the article 102 of TFEU and a short reference of the relative case law, while in the second part is annotated the joined cases C-241/1991 P. and C-242/1991 P. of ECJ - “Magill case” - by the view of competition policy. Finally, I want to express my gratitude to my supervisor teacher, Mr. Professor Pavlos Masouros, because his lecture of EU Competition Law / Antitrust Law, constituted the reason for the selection of the object of this dissertation. Panagiotis Stamatis, 20-02-2016Τεκμήριο Abuse of the due process as a ground for non-recognition of an arbitral award under article V 1 (b) of the New York Convention(2023-04-25) Oikonomou, AlexandraThis dissertation was written as part of the MSc in Transnational and European Commercial Law, Banking Law, Arbitration, and Mediation at the International Hellenic University. My dissertation addresses the following topic the issue of the non-recognition of an arbitral award because the party raising the objection under Article V 1(b) of the New York Convention was deprived of its right to present its case. The first chapter analyzes the New York Convention as the international legal instrument under which a foreign award can be recognized and enforced. Chapter 2 examines the meaning of ‘‘due process’’ under Article V 1(b) of the New York Convention as one reason for non recognition of arbitral awards. Chapter 3 focuses on the burden of proof and the source of standards of procedural fairness. Chapter 4 gives emphasis to cases where national courts have interpreted and applied Article V 1 (b) of the Convention. Finally, chapter 5 includes some special cases where the objection of Article V 1(b) is raised, and the last chapter refers to the conclusions of my thesisΤεκμήριο Access to Documents and Data Protection under the application of GDPR and Greek Law 4624/2019(2022-10-19) Louvrou, AgathiThis dissertation was written as part of the LLM in Transnational and European Commercial Law, Banking Law, Arbitration/Mediation at the International Hellenic University. Personal Data and access to public documents, two characteristics of a modern society, two fundamental rights, two formally equivalent laws, which do not are in a special and general relationship with each other and were adopted without taking into account each other as if they were two"strangers" who are never going to meet. But, we are in view of two rights which in many cases can conflict. In other words, is there a right of access to documents containing personal data of third parties? Even further, what happens in cases where the documents contain sensitive personal data of third parties? The topic has been chosen in the context of the study of General Data Protection Regulation and will be investigated and analyzed taking into account the past decisions of the Hellenic Data Protection Authority (such as the opinion 6/2013 of the Hellenic DPA) that were issued in order to provide a solution under the application of the previous legal regime (Greek law 2472/1997), and the solution that is given by the GDPR and the current Greek law (law 4624/2019).
